JEE Main 1979 Chemistry question on Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

The total number of electrons in one molecule of carbon dioxide is
  1. A.
    22
  2. B.
    44
  3. C.
    66
  4. D.
    88
Show answer and solution

Correct option: A

Solution

Carbon has 6 electrons and each oxygen has 8 electrons. One CO₂ molecule contains 1 carbon and 2 oxygens, so total electrons = 6 + 2×8 = 6 + 16 = 22.
