JEE Main 2023 Physics question on Kinetic Theory of Gases

The root mean square velocity of molecules of gas is
  1. A.
Inversely proportional to square root of temperature (1T)\left(\sqrt{\dfrac{1}{T}}\right)
  2. B.
Proportional to square root of temperature (T)\left(\sqrt{T}\right)
  3. C.
Proportional to square of temperature (T2)(T^2)
  4. D.
    Proportional to temperature (T)(T)
Show answer and solution

Correct option: B

Solution

From kinetic theory, vrms = √(3RT/M), where R is the gas constant and M is the molar mass. Since R and M are constants for a given gas, vrms ∝ √T — directly proportional to the square root of absolute temperature.
