JEE Main 1985 Chemistry question on Atomic Structure

The radius of an atomic nucleus is of the order of
  1. A.
    10−1010^{-10} cm
  2. B.
    10−1310^{-13} cm
  3. C.
    10−1510^{-15} cm
  4. D.
    10−810^{-8} cm
Show answer and solution

Correct option: B

Solution

The radius of an atomic nucleus is approximately 10⁻¹³ cm (equivalently, 10⁻¹⁵ m or 1 Fermi). This is about 100,000 times smaller than the atomic radius (~10⁻⁸ cm), which is the size of the electron cloud. Option 10⁻¹⁰ cm corresponds to atomic radius in meters, not the nucleus, so 10⁻¹³ cm is the correct nuclear scale.
