JEE Main 2019 Mathematics question on Straight Lines and Pair of Lines

If a straight line passing through the point P(−3,4)P(-3, 4) is such that its intercepted portion between the coordinate axes is bisected at PP, then its equation is
  1. A.
    x−y+7=0x - y + 7 = 0
  2. B.
    4x−3y+24=04x - 3y + 24 = 0
  3. C.
    3x−4y+25=03x - 4y + 25 = 0
  4. D.
    4x+3y=04x + 3y = 0
Show answer and solution

Correct option: B

Solution

If the line has x-intercept (a, 0) and y-intercept (0, b), then P(-3, 4) is the midpoint, so a/2 = -3 and b/2 = 4, giving a = -6, b = 8. The line in intercept form: x/(-6) + y/8 = 1, multiply through by 24: -4x + 3y = 24, i.e., 4x - 3y + 24 = 0.
