JEE Main 2023 Physics question on Gravitation

T is the time period of simple pendulum on the earth's surface. Its time period becomes xx T when taken to a height R (equal to earth's radius) above the earth's surface. Then, the value of xx will be:

Correct option: B

Solution

At height R above surface, distance from Earth's center is 2R, so geff = GM/(2R)² = g/4.

Time period T' = 2π√(L/geff) = 2π√(4L/g) = 2·(2π√(L/g)) = 2T.

Therefore x = 2.
