Show answer and solution
Correct option: A
Solution
Cobalt catalyst is used in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis and also in methanol production (IV). Syngas (CO + H₂) is produced by coal gasification (III), where coal reacts with steam/oxygen at high temperatures. Nickel catalyst is used in the steam reforming of hydrocarbons to produce water gas/syngas, but specifically here Nickel catalyst → water gas production (II), as Ni is the catalyst in the steam-methane reforming that generates H₂ + CO (water gas). Electrolysis of brine solution (NaCl dissolved in water) produces H₂ at cathode and Cl₂ at anode, i.e., (H₂ + Cl₂) production (I). This gives A-IV, B-III, C-II, D-I.
