JEE Main 2023 Physics question on Gravitation

If the distance of the earth from Sun is 1.5×1061.5 \times 10^6 km. Then the distance of an imaginary planet from Sun, if its period of revolution is 2.83 years is :
  1. A.
    3×1063 \times 10^6 km
  2. B.
    3×1073 \times 10^7 km
  3. C.
    6×1076 \times 10^7 km
  4. D.
    6×1066 \times 10^6 km
Show answer and solution

Correct option: A

Solution

Using Kepler's third law, T² ∝ r³, so (Tp/Te)² = (rp/re)³.

(2.83/1)² ≈ 8 = (rp/re)³, so rp/re = 2.

rp = 2 × 1.5 × 10⁶ km = 3 × 10⁶ km.
