JEE Main 2023 Physics question on Laws of Motion

A car is moving on a horizontal curved road with radius 50 m. The approximate maximum speed of car will be, if friction between tyres and road is 0.34. [take g=10 ms−2g = 10 \ \text{ms}^{-2}]
  1. A.
    22.4 ms−122.4 \ \text{ms}^{-1}
  2. B.
    17 ms−117 \ \text{ms}^{-1}
  3. C.
    3.4 ms−13.4 \ \text{ms}^{-1}
  4. D.
    13 ms−113 \ \text{ms}^{-1}
Show answer and solution

Correct option: D

Solution

For circular motion on a flat road, friction provides centripetal force: μmg = mv²/r, so vmax = √(μrg) = √(0.34 × 50 × 10) = √170 ≈ 13 ms⁻¹.
